The debate about AI has been framed wrong from the start. We keep asking: will artificial intelligence rise up against humans? We build that fear into movies, think pieces, Senate hearings. Terminator. Ex Machina. The whole genre of "robot uprising" storytelling assumes that when AI gets powerful enough, it will look at us and decide we're the problem.

But here's what nobody's saying out loud: by the time AI is powerful enough to "rise up," it won't be thinking about us at all.
